Lab-Grown Diamond FAQs
Everything you need to know about lab-grown diamonds, IGI certification, sizing, care and custom orders — so you can shop with total confidence at Pure Brilliant Jewels.
Are lab-grown diamonds real diamonds?
Yes — a lab-grown diamond is a real diamond in every sense. It is made of the same pure crystallized carbon as a natural stone, scores 10/10 on the Mohs hardness scale, and delivers the same fire, brilliance and sparkle. The only difference is provenance: one grows in a laboratory over weeks, the other in the Earth over billions of years.
Even trained gemologists need laboratory equipment to distinguish a lab-grown diamond from a mined one. Every piece at Pure Brilliant Jewels ships with an IGI certificate confirming its authenticity and quality.
How much cheaper are lab-grown diamonds?
Lab-grown diamonds are typically 30–50% less expensive than natural diamonds of the same carat, cut, color and clarity. The efficient lab process means your budget stretches further — often a larger or higher-clarity stone for the same price. That's why our handcrafted collection can offer premium designs at accessible prices.
What does IGI certification mean for my diamond?
IGI is the International Gemological Institute, one of the world's most trusted independent diamond grading laboratories. An IGI report grades cut, color, clarity and carat weight, and states whether a stone is lab-grown or natural.
All Pure Brilliant Jewels diamonds are IGI-certified, so the quality you order is the quality you receive — guaranteed. Learn more in our IGI certification guide.
Is it ethical to buy lab-grown diamonds?
For most buyers, yes. Lab-grown diamonds avoid the environmental impact of open-pit mining and are free of the conflict-diamond concerns tied to some mined sources. They're produced with far less water and energy and are fully traceable from lab to finger.
Choosing lab-grown lets you buy a stunning, sustainably produced diamond without sacrificing beauty, durability or value.
Will my lab-grown diamond pass a diamond tester?
Yes. Because a lab-grown diamond is real diamond, it conducts heat and electricity identically to a natural stone, so it reads as a diamond on standard diamond testers. It also matches natural diamonds in hardness and optical behavior. Only advanced testing equipment can identify its grown origin — which is exactly what your IGI certificate records.
Do your rings come in my size?
Our rings are crafted in standard sizes and we can usually accommodate nearly any size on request. Not sure of your size? Follow the ring sizing guide to measure at home, or message us through Etsy for custom sizing before you order — we'll make sure it fits perfectly.
Can I get a custom engagement ring?
Absolutely. We love bespoke work — custom stone shapes, halo or three-stone settings, pavé bands, mixed metals, and engravings. Tell us your idea and budget and we'll guide you through the design, pricing and timeline.
Every custom piece is handcrafted in 14K gold and IGI-certified, the same standard as our ready-to-ship collection.
What metal are your pieces made from?
All of our fine jewelry is handcrafted in solid 14K gold (yellow or white gold, depending on the design). 14K gold is durable for everyday wear, holds its warm tone beautifully, and is more affordable than higher-karat alloys. Compare the options in our 14K vs 18K guide.
How should I care for my lab-grown diamond jewelry?
Clean weekly with warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush, then pat dry with a lint-free cloth. Keep it away from harsh chemicals and chlorine, store pieces separately to avoid scratches, and have the setting inspected once a year. With basic care, your lab-grown diamond will sparkle for a lifetime.
Do you offer a warranty or guarantee?
Yes. Every piece is covered by our lifetime craftsmanship guarantee. If a setting or piece ever shows a manufacturing defect, contact us and we'll repair or replace it. We stand behind every handcrafted piece, from our engagement rings to eternity bands.
